Charming Novelty Black Forest Dog Pin Cushion and Thimble Case C.1890

Description

About as charming as they get, this wonderful Black Forest carved sewing compendium is beautifully carved in the form of a dog retaining his original two glass eyes.

The underside reveals the whole where this would have been secured to a wooden pillar allowing the carver to work on the intricate detail.

The naturalistic base incorporates and umbrella by the side of the dog. The woven basket to his back is clearly the pin cushion and the hinged head is where the metal thimble is stored.

Late Victorian in era, around 1890, he remains in superb condition. 3 3/4" x 2" x 4 1/2" tall.
