English George III Mahogany Apothecary Cabinet C.1800

19th century
Sold by Puckerings
Description

A magnificent example of an early apothecary cabinet in solid Mahogany and dating to around 1800 and retaining the original key.

The key keeps everything locked away, with the lid holding pins down keeping the front and rear doors secure until the box is unlocked and the lid lifted.

Once the lid is lifted, a fully fitted interior is revealed with long bottles, a scale, weights, and the original stored ceramic tablet. There is an old family medicine book, later, as it is dated 1850 and the box is certainly older than that, Georgian in era.. The front door can be opened to reveal a double bank of bottles and four drawers below with a variety of glassware.

The rear is traditionally where poisons were stored and has six large bottles intact.

Excellent period condition with wear commensurate with age. 9" x 7 3/4" x 10 1/2" tall.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
