Rare Regency Japanned & Painted Games Table

19th century
Description

A very rare japanned Regency games table raised on lyre supports and standing on a shaped canted corner base, terminating with ball feet and the original castors, including a central castor under the base. The top of this antique table is painted with blossoms, vines and foliage and the frieze is painted in the same style with traditional oriental scenes within a cartouche on the corners. The folding top opens to reveal a chess board within oriental and floral borders. The decoration continues on the lyre supports and base, an indication of the quality of this piece. The table is in good condition, there is some slight wear to the top, but this is not detrimental(please see photos for a detailed view) , the decoration is generally in good order, you would expect some wear and marks on a table that has been in use for over 200 years. The inside decoration is in excellent order. The stability of the table is very good, standing firmly with no wobbles. This is a rare and beautiful table, a superb example of the style and elegance of the Regency period.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
