Youngs Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
The rear stiles have been repaired at some stage which is usually the case with dressers such as this. The drawer handles are later and all of the drawer linings are original. Two drawer pans have been replaced probably in the 18th/19th century as the grain runs right to left unlike the others which run front to back . The construction of the drawers is typical of early 17th century design having dovetailed front and the rest being nailed together. The drawers do not have side runners but instead sit on the runners which is a design which came in during the transition from oak to walnut from around C1680 , which dates this dresser to the last quarter of the 17th century. This is a super piece of furniture and in excellent condition.
