Antique Papier Mache Tea Caddy - Fine Pretty Mother of Pearl Inlay

Description

So many papier mache tea caddies are inlaid with crude chunks of mother of pearl, more thought and refined decoration has been applied to this stunning example.

Beautiful gilded decoration stands out against the black lacquered finish of the papier mache and the refined floral sprays of iridescent mother of pearl reflect the light and radiate a rainbow of colour.

The interior reveals the original two lids with delightful pearl knobs. The top part of the lock is absent but doesn't affect the appearance in any way.

The caddy stands on it's original four bun feet and is a real stunner for your collection. Dating to around 1840, it remains in excellent condition with no loss of shell, minor wear commensurate with age. Measures 7" x 5" x 4 1/2" tall.
