Antique Solid Silver George III 3-part Wine Funnel

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

This solid sterling silver wine funnel is in excellent condition.

It is clearly hallmarked for London 1790, with the maker''s mark of George Smith (II).

The strainer has a few light surface abrasions - hardly surprising for an item over 220 years old - and is decorated simply with a beaded edge. The hallmarks are on the inside of the fitting and are crisp. The strainer fits snugly to the spout, which has partial hallmarks. There are italicised initials on the clasp. The muslin ring is unmarked and smaller in diameter to the base of the strainer, which would suggest that it was not the original ring with this funnel. Nonetheless, it is unusual to find any sort of a muslin ring with wine funnels these days.
