Welsh Oak Porters Chair 1800

Description

An Early 19th Century Welsh Oak Hall or Porters Chair.

The canopied top with an arcaded frieze decorated with Greek lettering and names about the two arches. The wing sides shaped and swept to upward curving hand holds, between the seat. The winged sides continued below the seat, to form an enclosed area fronted by a bow frieze with further Greek lettering. The bottoms of the wing sides repeating the arcading of the covered top.
