Regency Rosewood Console Table

19th century
Description

Exceptional Regency rosewood, ebonised, parcel gilt and ormolu mounted console table in the manner of George Smith/Thomas Hope. The rectangular black marble top above a frieze centred by an Apollo mask paterae flanked by lotus and anthemion mounts and stars, on winged leopard monopodiae with stylised lotus collars terminating in paw feet, with a mirror plate backing and inverted plinth base.

Provenance: Lady Janet Elizabeth Reiss (1924-2000) formerly at her home in Rutland
