A charming Japanese Meiji period one-piece ivory okimono of an egg tester depicting a man in decorative clothing peering into an egg with one eye closed to determine whether it contains a chick or if it is good to eat. The finely carved character has a basket of yet untested eggs over his shoulder and another basket of good eggs by his feet, inset with a red seal mark on the underside it is in excellent condition with no damage and stands 6 inches tall.
