Description

Afshar rugs made in the Khorassan region of north-east Persia are rare. This stunning little rug with its two large Turkmen 'guls' on a glowing indigo-blue field, is superb. The guls incorporate a vegetable-dye rose-pink - an unusual but early colour also seen in the inner border. The rug oozes quality and has a strong Turkmen presence - an indication of the Afshar origins in eastern Turkistan before their mass migrations into Persia and eastern Anatolia in the 11th century.
