Puckerings has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The box is decorated with an embossed or repousse floral and foliate design. The slightly domed hinged lid fits well and has a small central vacant cartouche.
The interior retains the original gilding with some discoloration. The underside of the box has a full English hallmark for Birmingham 1895, a true Victorian example. The makers initials are also present for the silversmith, Matthew John Jessop.
Excellent condition.
