Antique silver private label pocket watch, 1890.

We believe that the pocket watch is an Ehrhardt piece but sold under the name John Swain & Co of Bristol and Warrington, the original retailer of the watch.

The watch has a signed key-wound movement which is working nicely. Originally there was probably an inner fitted cover but this has disappeared over the years.

The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Birmingham 1890, together with the maker’s mark for William Ehrhardt. The case has been well used as the engine turned detail has virtually worn away but overall the case is in good condition.

The watch glass is in good condition.

The dial is signed with the name John Swain & Co, Bristol & Warrington… this also leads us to conclude that this is a private label piece as it was usual for the retailer to add their name to the dial rather than that of the actual maker of the watch. The dial is in lovely condition.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
