C19th French bronze 'Grand Tour' souvenir statue, after the antique, "Diana the Huntress ".

Exceptionally well-cast smaller scale reduction of the antique marble statue of the goddess Diana depicted as a Huntress. Excellent consistent dark patination and condition.

Bears the stamp of "Achille Collas" to the rear of the base , the company who patented and perfected the technique to enable accurate reductions and copies of classical statuary of this type from Museum collections .

The marble original now in the Louvre , Paris , being a Roman (1st or 2nd century AD ) over life-size copy of a lost Greek original c . 325 BC. Discovered in Italy reputedly at Hadrian's Villa , Tivoli , the statue was gifted to Henry II of France by Pope Paul IV in 1556.

Portrayed as a Huntress, the Goddess of the Chase and nature, has a quiver of arrows across her back , and is attended by a buck deer, her left hand gripping part of her bow. She wears a short Dorian chiton, a himation around her waist and sandals on her feet .

The underside of the base has an old paper collection label with ink reference.
