Grand Silver Plated Hunting Tureen by Wmf C.1920 - Signed

Description

A rare and special find, this huge Tureen would sit well in a grand hunting lodge, or the perfect centrepiece for your Thanksgiving gathering.

Made in Germany by the famous WMF (WURTTEMBERGISCHE METALLWARENFABRIK). Either side has a wonderful antler handle and the top of the lid is topped with a figural finial in the form of a Capercaillie.

The Tureen comes in three pieces, the base, a ring that fits to the top of the base and then the lid. The tureen is decorated with magnificent hunting themes each panel signed by the artist, which I have not identified. The ring at the top of the tureen has an embossed or repousse Oak leaf and acorn design.

The underside has the full mark for WMF, this mark dating to around 1920. The piece remains in excellent condition with an untouched antique patina with copper high spots showing through the silver plate. An impressive size, spanning 18" from handle to handle x 13" x 18" tall.
