I have had a few larger oval basket weave baskets (without any liner) over the years, clearly these were bread baskets. I have never come across this small oval basket with the gilded liner and am not 100% sure of it's use; clearly for food service with the gilded liner and the two folding ring handles to remove the liner.

It would make the most perfect butter dish, especially if paired with a larger bread basket of a similar design.

The quality is exceptional, a heavy piece created from this highly sought-after basket weave design in silver plate. The underside is signed by the famous london maker, Leuchars of Piccadilly.

Victorian in era, dating to around 1880, it remains in excellent condition. 7 1/2" x 4 3/8" x 1 3/4" tall.
