Ormolu and Sevres Porcelain Clock by Achille Brocot

19th century
Description

~ French - Circa 1870 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A beautiful antique French ormolu (gilt bronze) clock with exquisitely decorated Sèvres style porcelain panel, urn and dial. The movement is by the distinguished clockmaker Achille Brocot. The style is Louis XVI, decorated with acanthus, scrolling foliage and cornucopia.

The clock has a porcelain dial featuring a cherub with a basket of flowers and beneath this is a delicately painted scene of a young couple. To the top of the clock is a porcelain urn delicately painted with a country scene. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is by Achille Brocot and has the makers mark on the backplate. The retailers mark is on the dial. It is of high quality as expected and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. A video is available of the clock running.

Achille Brocot was a member of the renowned Brocot clockmaking family, the eldest son of Louis Gabriel Brocot. He was treasurer to La Société des Horlogers in Paris and was awarded First Class Medal at the 1855 Paris Exhibition - Tardy, Dictionnaire des Horlogers

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. Porcelain is in very good condition with just some rubbing to the over-glaze gilt decoration, especially to the dial.
