Thomas Morgan Bristol Moon Phases Longcase Grandfather Clock

19th century
Description

A well proportioned Bristol moon phase longcase clock. A mahogany case with a swan-neck hood pediment and central brass finial. Brass capped fluted hood columns. Chamfered trunk sides and boxwood case inlays. The original bracket feet and distinctive Bristol area 'wavy hood door edge'. An attractive painted dial with lunar moon phases to the arch and a sailing frigate. The original gold leaf to the shell corners with date and seconds. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Circa 1830.

Thomas Morgan of Bristol worked at Broad Weir, Bridewell Lane and High Street from 1781 to 1838. He is well documented in A J Moores' 'The Clockmakers of Bristol' book.
