Puckerings has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Elkington held Royal Warrants for Queen Victoria, King Edward VI, King George V, King Edward VIII and King George VI.

In time this example went to my silversmith for cleaning, once he started, it was found that the cooler was originally covered in gold but worn. I had two choices to cover in silverplate or pay a small fortune to have re-covered in gold to restore to it's former glory, the latter is the road I chose.

I (and my silversmith) has never seen this design, it is quite beautiful with a basket-weave overlaid with cast rope decoration.
The underside is where the makers mark can be found, and being Elkington we are able to date it exactly, this example having the date letter for 1883.
A superb gem in excellent condition with age commensurate with age. The rim measures 8" and stands 8" tall.
