A stunning and large original antique French clock featuring Neptune with dolphin.
The figure of Neptune is after the original by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Neptune is beautifully depicted shown holding a trident which he used to control the seas. He is seated on one of his servant dolphins riding the waves.

The large and superb dial is porcelain enamel on copper, delicately painted with floral swags between the hours. It is complete with original finely fretted gilt hands. The dial is faintly signed for the retailer Peace and Sons, Paris.

The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. It is the large square plate version of the Pendule de Paris movement with dead beat escapement and rack striking. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on gong. A video is available to hear the gong and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the shell veneer is in lovely condition beautifully mellowed and figured. There are a few slight marks and minor cracking. The ormolu is beautifully clean and bright. The dial is also in excellent condition just a small chip near the edge at the 3 o'clock and some hairlining near the 9 o'clock.

Clockmaker's mark on the movement backplate.
Complete with original pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
