Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King William IV (18301837), these bookcases bridge the transition between refined Regency classical proportions and heavier Victorian forms. Key traits include robust flame mahogany veneers, architectural cornices, corbel brackets, arched glazing bars, and integrated fold-out or pull-out writing drawers.

High-grade Cuban or West Indian mahogany was the primary timber used for primary surfaces, often selected for figure and grain patterning. Secondary woods inside drawers and backings typically included pine or oak, while writing surfaces were inlaid with skiver leather or baize.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original brass hardware, leaded or hand-blown glass panes showing subtle imperfections, and evidence of hand-planing on rear panels. Look for distinct William IV architectural details such as lotus leaf carvings, turned column supports, or carved corbels.

Large mahogany bookcases serve as focal points in home offices, dining rooms, or large drawing rooms. Pairing rich dark wood with muted wall shades, contemporary upholstery, and minimal modern decorative accents creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting. Treat the wood periodically with a high-grade beeswax polish using a soft cloth, and clean leather writing surfaces with dedicated leather conditioners to prevent cracking.
