Overmantle Mirror with Classical Frieze C.1890.

Description

Late 19th.c. triple plate gilt overmantle mirror c.1890. Three bevelled mirror plates set in a gilded frame with an extraordinary Classical frieze depicting the Greek goddess Cybele on a chariot pulled by four lions and accompanied by angels with bugles, moulded in high relief across the top. With an overhanging cornice and flanked with reeded columns with Corinthian capitals. Good condition with some later overpainting to the gilt.

Dimensions: width 56", depth 4½", height 34½".
