Description

Large oil on canvas by Hector Chavepeyer (1893-1959). The canvas is mounted in a stunning moulded wooden frame with a slip. Both the frame and painting are in excellent condition. The painting is inscribed on the rear 'En Souvenir d'Amitie - Hector' and dated 5-12-1957.

Hector Chavepeyer was born in Chatelet in 1893. He was a student of C Montald at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts from 1909-1913. He was later a founder member of the Royal Artistic an Literary Circle of Charleroi and a member of the Circel of La Sambre of Chatelet (1925). He was also a member of the circle of 'Enter Nous' in 1950 and has works in the Museum of Rheims and Charleroi.

As an artist he generally painted landscapes, genre and religious scenes. During the first world war his work evolved into a more expressionist style which allowed him to better express himself.
