Description

Woman in the Snow signed by J Legasse (1872-1962). The winter landscape shows a woman in the snow at sunset collecting sticks. She appears to be walking past a large hayrick/root crop store. The painting is signed by the artist and mounted in a black and bronze painted wooden frame.

Legasse was a member of the Liege school of artists and was an artist less known to the general public. In the dictionary of landscape painters, Goien felt Legasse was worth a mention for his talented work. He came from an artistic family and with his brother - as well as painting - he used to work on theatrical decoration and the restoration of frescos.

The painting dates from the early 19th Century.
