Puckerings has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It was either a very special presentation piece or made for travel during the Victorian era.

Elkington & Co. are one of the most important names in English silver and certainly the most important in silver plate. Elkington held Royal Warrants for Queen Victoria, King Edward VI, King George V, King Edward VIII and King George VI.

The silver plated biscuit box is quite beautiful with grand Lion's head back plates with ring handles. The box stands on four cast reticulated feet and is engraved both back and front with continuous floral and foliate garlands.

The underside is where the full mark can be found for Elkington; being Elkington we are able to date accurately to the year 1883.
The top of the presentation case is inlaid with a shaped brass cartouche engraved with the original owners initials; unbelievably the box comes with the original lock and key.
The biscuit box measures 9" x 6 3/4" x 6 3/4" tall to top of finial. The wooden case measures 10 1/2" x 8 1/4" x 8" tall.
