Gents 1938 Zenith Wrist Watch, Military History

A gents 1938 Zenith wrist watch.

The watch has a hand-winding movement, calibre 106, which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Zenith name and the serial number 3,164,751 dates it back to 1938.

The watch itself measures 25mm wide and 29.5mm high excluding the lugs (37mm high including the lugs). The case is plated with a steel case back. There is a small “ding” to the side of the case and the odd mark but overall the condition is lovely for a 1930s piece. The inside of the case back is signed Zenith.

The outside of the case back has an engraving relating to a Captain Alfred Douglas Wordsworth of the Army Catering Corps. He was relinquished from his commission at the end of World War 2 when he was granted the honorary rank of Major. The case back also has his regimental number and states that he was C of E.

The convex lens is in good condition.

The signed dial has a little age related darkening but overall is in good condition with original feuille shaped blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
