Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Collared candlesticks, frequently produced in the Low Countries during the 17th and 18th centuries, feature a prominent horizontal disc or flange halfway up the stem. This collar served as an enlarged drip tray to capture molten wax before it reached the lower stem or surface.

Period brass candlesticks were typically cast in sections using metal or sand moulds, then joined together and finished on a lathe. Hand-lathe turning produced distinct knopping and ringed details along the stem and circular base.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit subtle irregularities from hand-casting and hand-lathe turning, along with authentic surface oxidation or patination in unpolished crevices. Original casting seam lines and join marks are often visible inside the socket or hollow base.

Positioning a single candlestick on a fireplace mantelpiece, dining table centre, or console sideboard introduces warmth and historical texture. The golden tones of aged brass contrast effectively against contemporary minimalist or dark painted backdrops.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to maintain its condition. To preserve the aged patina and historical surface value, avoid using abrasive metal polishes or harsh chemical cleaners.
