Rare English Immisch Patent Silver Skin Thermometer in It's Case C.1890

Description

A wonderful find and a rare piece. This is an Immisch patent silver skin thermometer in it's case. German born Moritz Immisch was a well known clinical instrument maker and obtained the patent for this small, watch-shaped thermometer in 1881.

The face is crisp and signed MAW London,a 19th century medical instrument maker and retailer; together with a patent number of 1993. This thermometer is English and dates from around 1890. Although not marked, it does test as sterling silver.

Excellent working condition, the case measures 2" x 2 1/2" x 1"; the thermometer measures 1 5/8" x 1 1/8" with the face having a diameter measuring 1".
