Antique Khorjin (Mini Saddle-bags), Afshar Nomads of Aqta'e, Kerman Province, South-west Persia.

1900 - 1920
Description

This gorgeous pair of mini saddle-bags ('khorjin' in Persian), was made by Afshar nomads in Aqta'e, Kerman Province circa 1900-1920 and depicts roses in each of the bag-faces and roses in the ivory border. The rose originated in Persia before being grown in France and the UK. The use of a pea-green colour in the central field of each bag-face is unusual and I love the 'bridge' with its symbolic flowing water - important of course, in order to keep the roses alive! This khorjin is in near-mint condition with its original madder-red plain-weave back.

Refer to Parviz Tanavoli's newly published book 'Khorjins - Tribal and Rural Weaves from Iran' to see an almost identical example on pages 80-81.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
