Small 18th Century Verge Bracket Clock

Description

HIGGS & EVANS, LONDON: A really good quality late 18th century BRACKET CLOCK in fine working order and of desirable small size.

The ebonised case with its brass-edged pad top and cast brass handle, has inner brass slip frames to both doors and side panels and it is supported on cast brass feet emanating from a brass plinth.

The original 8-day verge movement strikes and repeats hours on a bell with "Strike/Silent" the the arch and date aperture to the engraved and silvered dial. Finely engraved backplate. A gorgeous clock! Just 13.5ins (35cms) high.

***This clock with its original high quality verge movement features special pallets (which allow the crown wheel to 'escape') producing rare "silent" ticking.
