In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
S. It has a hinged lid and is generally clean and tidy inside with its original floor and original hinges. The lock has been altered at a later date and a new escutcheon fitted but we do not have a key.

It dates from the late 18th Century and is in good overall condition. It has developed a beautiful rich patina and is strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and use, some knocks and marks and some chips around the lid but nothing detrimental. It has been maintained over the years with some repairs including new moulding on the sides of the chest and some repairs to the feet. The main body of the chest is elm and the lid is pine which could suggest the lid has been replaced at some point but if it has its been done a very long time ago. There are some historic woodworm holes around the whole chest which have been treated as a precuation and filled so as they aren't detrimental.
