As part of our Japanese Works of art collection we are delighted to offer this lovely little Edo period Ivory netsuke, depicting Hotei ( one of the lucky Gods of good fortune) holding a young baby, he is modelled standing with his head tilted to one side with a humorous grin on his face and holding a young baby wrapped in his traditional lucky tied sack, it is believed in Japanese folklore that Hotei holding a young child is the symbol for the guardian of children, a charming and unusual addition to your netsuke collection
