WILLIAM WEBSTER of LONDON: Good quality mid-18th century LONGCASE CLOCK by this renowned maker, in fine working condition.

The mahogany case is typical of the period with its arched top; brass-inlaid columns flanking the hood door; long arched-top figured mahogany trunk door; panelled base and double plinth.

The 8-day movement strikes hours on a bell, whilst the dial features "Strike/Silent" in the arch; subsidiary seconds and date aperture. Signed: "Willm. Webster, Exchange Alley, LONDON. Guaranteed at least two years. 7ft 3ins high.

***William Webster (II) worked in Exchange Alley, in the heart of London's clockmaking district, having been apprenticed in 1727. He was a full member of the Clockmakers Company 1734-1776.
