An antique full hunter pocket watch from Kay & Co Ltd, with chain.

The watch has a good quality stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Kay & Co Ltd, the original retailer of the watch. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

William Kay set up Kays of Worcester in 1890. Customers bought items from handbills in a folder and initially the goods on offer were limited to jewellery, watches, clocks and household items. Eventually William’s son Jack took over the running of the business. The company continued to expand and trade successfully, becoming one of Worcester’s largest employers.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and was made in England by the Dennison Watch Case Company. The case has four “dings” to the outer case, and some wear to the plate around the edge but not too noticeable to the naked eye.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside there is a glass lens which is in good condition.

The white enamel dial is in beautiful condition.

The watch comes with a good quality gold plated single chain, 32cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
