Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
This chest is quite high, so all the drawers are quite deep, with fine dovetails & solid mahogany bottoms. The top drawer is stamped with the cabinet makers or sellers name ‘Hindley & Sons. Oxford Street. London’, which is engraved into the wood. This is normally a sure sign of quality & this piece is certainly very fine quality. It dates to around the early Victorian 1840-60 period. There is also an old piece of paper in the top drawer, which has an explanation about the history & design of this piece. This was probably written out many years ago by someone who originally sold it.
