Gents 1950s Laco-sport Wrist Watch

A gents 1950s Laco-Sport wrist watch.

The watch has an automatic movement, signed Laco-Duromat, 25 jewels, which is working nicely. The Duromat (calibre 552) was introduced in 1952 by Durowe. Durowe was a sister company of Laco. The company was founded in 1933 with a view to manufacturing movements, rather than buying them in from Switzerland. Durowe were amongst the first watch manufacturers in Germany to produce an automatic movement.

The watch itself measures 33.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold plated, with the thicker 20 microns of plate, and the condition looks good to the naked eye… if viewed closely then some wear is visible. The case back states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water.

The lens has a short scratch, about 1mm long, but otherwise is in good condition.

The two tone dial has a great look, plenty of 1950s character. Original dauphine shaped hands, centre seconds hand and outer minute markers.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
