Exquisite bust length portrait of an elegant lady. The artist has portrayed their pretty young sitter wearing fashionable clothing for the period and her feminine silhouette with the sloping shoulders are emphasised by the large gathered full sleeves. This portrait also shows the pleated panels of fabric trimming the gown around the bust and shoulders and the elaborate hair curls popular in the 1830’s.
 
The fluid handling shows all the vigour and style of Jan Kruseman and the the influence of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Amsterdam of which Kruseman was Director. Uniquely this portrait is in excellent condition coupled with the fact that it has not had to undergo a lining process. This is very beneficial as it is in almost totally untouched condition. To add to that it is presented in its original gilt frame. This intimate portrayal of feminine beautify is an outstanding example.
