Antique Georgian Oak Bureau with Secret Drawers C1780

Description

This is a lovely george 111 oak bureau and dating from around 1780. It has a brass escutcheon to the fall front which opens to reveal a lovely interior with a central cupboard with original key and two half turned columns to either side. The cupboard is removable and reveals two secret drawers and compartments and gives access to secret compartments behind the columns (please see photo). To each side of the cupboard is one long drawer with two short drawers above and three pigeon holes with a long drawer on one side above the pigeon holes. To the base of the bureau are four long graduating drawers all of which are oak lined and with original handles and escutcheons. It is moulded to the base and stands on bracket feet.

This is a lovely original country oak bureau which is slightly darker than the photographs show and in very good condition oozing the charm and character of the georgian period. It does have a joint line to the fall front and to either side.

It measures: 42" high X knee height 30" X 20" deep X 38" wide
