Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced in the 18th century, the Pembroke table was named after the Countess of Pembroke, who commissioned the initial design. These tables were constructed with two drop leaves and a small drawer, offering a compact footprint suitable for light dining, writing, or serving tea in Georgian drawing rooms.

Georgian Pembroke tables were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or satinwood, often featuring decorative crossbanding and marquetry inlays. Hardware typically consisted of brass ring handles, knob pulls, and brass castors mounted to turned or tapered legs.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints inside the drawers, original brass castors showing natural oxidisation, and timber displaying historical patination. Additionally, look for wooden fly-rail supports under the drop leaves rather than modern iron hinges.

A Pembroke table functions effectively as an end table beside a sofa, a compact desk in a home office, or a hall table in an entryway. The drop leaves allow the table to sit flush against a wall when closed or expand when extra surface area is required.

Regular dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and an annual application of high-grade beeswax will protect the mahogany finish. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, warping, or fading of the crossbanded veneers.
