Hobson May Collection has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The turned uprights are generous in proportion and of simple straight form, as are the stretchers and spindles. This 'chubbiness' gives a homely, country appeal to the chairs and allows the beautiful grain and original patination to come through. One chair has a short split below one stretcher, this is quite minor and does not affect the stability of the chairs. The rush seating is lovely and in very good order, the chairs stand well with no wobbles and the overall condition is good. The chairs have been cleaned and waxed and are ready to place in the home, perfect to add country charm to any interior.
