Description

This rug is incredibly finely knotted, and made by a Teke weaver circa 1880, at the very height of her profession. Apart from a very tiny, hardly noticeable old repair and the false fringes, the rug is in near-mint condition. The depiction of the Teke 'guls' or crests in the central madder-red field is protected by a beautiful main border, knotted in cochineal-red and I particularly like the fine detail in the skirts at each end. A truly beautiful late 19th century Teke Turkmen rug of outstanding quality.
