Description

Nice example of a large early Oak Coffer. It is of traditional form made with a panelled construction and standing on four feet. It has a hinged lid and is generally clean and tidy inside with its original floor and internal candle box.

It dates from the 18th Century and is in superb original condition. It has developed a beautiful rich patina and is strong and sturdy. It has avoided being heavily overcarved and is a very pretty example with tall feet.

The hinges have had some repair work done at some time but they are sturdy and solid. The lock has been removed but has been replaced with a nice piece of wood to fill the void. There are signs of age and use but nothing detrimental and it displays beautifully as one of the most original examples of a coffer that I've seen.
