Description

Late 19th pair of cased taxidermy rabbits by Henry ‘Harry’ Shaw, c.1870. Both snow white albinos with pink eyes, posed amongst grasses and rocks behind glass in their original wooden case. Makers badge by ‘Harry Shaw, Naturalist & Fishing Tackle Maker, Shrewsbury’. Excellent original condition.

More commonly knows as Henry, Shaw was an acclaimed Victorian taxidermist (1812-1887) whose patrons included museums and several members of the British aristocracy, allowing him access to some notable collections and rare specimens. During his career Shaw is believed to have prepared three specimens of the already extinct Great Auk.
