Antique Georgian Mahogany Bureau Bookcase C1780

Description

This is a very nice antique george 111 mahogany bureau bookcase and dating from around 1780. It has a cornice top with mahogany frieze above two original glazed doors with original key and with three adjustable shelves and a row of four small drawers all of which are oak lined with brass handles. The fall front to the bureau has a brass escutcheon and an age related grain line it opens to reveal a very nice inlaid interior with a central door with chequered stringing and an inlaid shell motiffe to the centre either side of which is a secret bookend compartment again with chequered stringing and inlaid shell motife. To each side there is a long secret frieze drawer with chequered striniging and oak lined above four pigeon holes and four small drawers. It has a later leatherette writing surface. To the base of the bureau there are two short over three long graduating drawers all of which are oak lined with original brass handles and it is moulded to the base and stands on bracket feet.

The bookcase separates from the bureau for ease of transporting.

This is a very nice georgian bureau bookcase in very good condition and oozes the charm and character of the period.

It measures: 87" high X 21" deep X internal depth to top 9" X knee height to desk 30" X 46" wide
