A most unusual inkwell, I''m not sure whether this is English or Continental (perhaps Austrian).
The wooden base is made with several pieces of wood, put together like a jigsaw, the top of the inkwell is also created from the matching turned Mahogany. Of course, what makes this highly collectable is the wonderful Owl inset to the lid in a mix of silver plate and brass and retaining his two original glass eyes.
The hand blown glass inkwell is iridescent, with a rainbow of colours evident in the light.
Excellent condition (a couple of little splits to the brass collar - insignificant but mentioned for accuracy) and dating to around 1900. 3 1/2'' in diameter x 4 3/4'' tall.
