Magnificent Antique English Novelty Inkwell - Horse with Glass Eyes C.1880

Description

In all the years I have been in the antiques business and dealing in similar articles, I have never come across this example of a wonderful equestrian inkwell before.

Beautifully case in solid English brass, the inkwell stands on four horse hoof legs. The folding handle is in the form of a stirrup, Once this is folded down, the lid of the inkwell can be lifted to reveal the inkwell within, containing a ceramic liner. The horse's head is quite beautiful and retaining it's original two glass eyes. A wonderful belt and buckle design surrounds the horses head.

A lovely quality piece to display on the finest of desk-tops or a must-have for the avid collector. Victorian in era and dating to around 1880, it remains in excellent condition. The feet span 4 1/2" and the inkwell to the top of the stirrup stands 7 1/2".
