Description
A scarce and unusual Antique Anglo Indian Vizagapatam lidded wooden box applied with a grey coloured horn panels and set with fine ivory work. The rectangular shaped box stands raised on four carved lion paw feet with a hinged and locking cover. The cover has a raised panel with a finely reticulated panel painted in black with a seated god figure with similar panels around the edge decorated with floral designs. The panels are attached by ivory studs with further applied banding around the edges. The box has further ivory inlays to the inside cover and has an ivory edged lift outfitted tray with split compartments below. The box comes complete with its original key. The box is not marked. This item may require CITES if exported and there may be an additional cost in respect. Maker - Anglo-Indian although typically not marked as shown. Date- 19th Century Condition - The box does have some missing elements around the edges and some loss to the fine openwork designs applied to the cover. The inner tray is slightly misshapen and consequently the cover does not go down completely when closed, however, closes when the tray is removed.
