Fine London-made Georgian Bracket Clock

19th century
Description

JAMES LINDLEY, LONDON: a fine late 18th century BRACKET CLOCK in beautiful condition and perfect working order.

The case is typical of the period with its brass-edged pad and cast brass handle to the top; fishscale spandrels to the front door and sides; finely cast bezel and original bracket feet.

The 8-day movement retains its original anchor escapement, striking hours on a bell and repeating hours via the pull-cord, with pretty engraving around the backplate and the original pendulum bob. The enamel dial is in superb condition, as are the elegant blued steel hands. 15ins (38cms) high.

*** JAMES LINDLEY (born 1777) son of clockmaker Thomas Lindley of Leicester, worked in London where he married the daughter of fellow-clockmaker William Carpenter in 1803. They formed a working partnership together from 1805 until 1812. He died in 1846.
