Early 18th Century Oak & Walnut Chest of Drawers

18th century
Description

A charming early 18th Century oak and walnut chest of 2 short drawers over three graduated long drawers, all crossbanded. This antique English chest has an oak moulded top and oak sides which contrast well with the beautifully figured walnut. Dating from the reign of Queen Anne, the chest is constructed in two pieces, this design is typical of chests of the period. The condition is good, the drawers run smoothly and the chest stands firmly on the later bracket feet. The handles, which are very decorative, are original on all but the bottom drawer, these have obviously been on for quite some time and are an excellent match. There are 18th Century letters/script stuck to the back of the chest and lining some of the inside saying 'love thine neighbour' and 'give none offence' which are of historical interest. There is a repair to the top, this has been very well done and is not detrimental to the appearance of this three hundred year old chest, as can be seen from the photograph, the colour and patina are superb.A striking and beautiful piece of 18th Century furniture.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
