Charming French Letter or Postal Scale; Signed Narcisse Briais C.1890

Description

This is a particularly smart example of a french desk-top letter or postage scale. This one has a fabulous and luxurious polished Onyx base with a screw to the side used to level the scale.

The scale is made from solid cast brass which has been professionally re-polished to give a gleaming finish to the front. The weight measurements on the front are of course grams as this example was clearly meant to remain on the continent. The front is signed N.B. for the French scale maker, Narcisse Briais of Paris.

A charming addition to a scale collection or a perfect desk-top accessory. Dating to around 1890, it remains in excellent condition, with the stone base measurement of 3 1/4" in diameter x 6 1/2" tall.
