Antique Scottish Mother of Pearl Double Postage Stamp Box C.1890

Description

A handsome and near-pristine double postage stamp box made from wood and decorated with Mother of Pearl or Nacre shell, having a good glossy patina showcasing it's wonderful iridescent qualities. The interior slips are lined with Ivory.

The box stands on it's original four glass bead feet and the underside reveals the original retailer's label for John C. B. Craddock, Argyll Arcade, Glasgow. Founded in 1873, this was a famous shop in Glasgow and a manufacturer of Jet Jewellery and Fans and selling "fashionable novelties".

Excellent condition, this box dates to the late Victorian era, around 1890. 2 1/2" x 1 5/8" x 1 1/4" tall.
